Do you love cucumbers because of their fresh taste on your salad? Beyond just tasting great, cucumber can be a cool skin refresher. The cucumber’s extracts possess many antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent ingredient for a face mask.
The humble cucumber is made up of 95 percent water and is great for hydrating, brightening and toning the skin. It can function as a moisturizer for dry skin as well as a toner for oily skin.
A cucumber face mask can provide many benefits to the facial skin. It can relax, soften, strengthen, and hydrate the skin tissues; improve the skin’s ability to retain water; reduce any swelling; soothe the effects of sunburn; and make your skin smooth, supple, and young.
A cucumber face mask can also promote the growth of new skin cells and act as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent to protect the skin from inflammatory disorders and infections. When repeatedly applied to the facial skin, a cucumber face mask improves the circulation of blood through the skin cells.
You can prepare a homemade face mask using cucumber that will be effective in controlling various skin ailments. To get started, you will need the following ingredients:
- ½ fresh cucumber
- 1 tablespoon of yogurt, Greek or plain
Blend the two ingredients to make a smooth, fine, chunk-free paste. Before applying the paste, wash your face with warm water to open the pores of the skin. After drying your face, massage the facial mask in circular motions with the help of your finger tips. Leave the facial mask on your face for approximately 15 minutes. Then rinse it, first with lukewarm water and finally with cool water.
Pat your face dry with a clean, soft towel. If preferred, you can apply skin moisturizer afterward. Use extra virgin olive oil for a natural moisturizer.
