In addition to great people, food and conversation, alcohol is one of the things that is most present during celebrations and gatherings. It adds to the fun and excitement of the event. Yet, regular intake of alcohol and over consumption can cause serious health problems.

Alcohol Awareness Month

April is Alcohol Awareness Month. This month, groups aim to educate the public about the negative effects of alcohol when it is misused and abused, and about preventing alcohol-related incidents. It also encourages individuals to take part in the prevention of alcohol abuse.

The Negative Effects of Alcohol

It is not just about the hangover, or the embarrassing actions you did last night while you’re under the influence of alcohol; headache, dizziness, stomach distress, muscle cramps, pancreatic pain, and many others are micro effects of alcohol while heart disease, infertility, birth defect, tuberculosis, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, etc. can be very alarming.

Though alcohol is a liquid substance, sad to say, it dehydrates your entire body including your body’s largest organ, the skin. For skincare products like Erase Repair to work and retain moisture, you must have moisture available to begin with. Huge amounts of alcohol consumption can deprive the skin of water, vitamins and nutrients it needs, which results to dry and unhealthy skin. Also, people with alcohol intolerance can experience skin allergies, which eventually leads to flushes or reddening and skin rashes. Alcohol can also make your face feel bloated and can increase body weight, most specifically called beer belly.

Additionally, according to National Institute of Heath, alcohol can affect parts of the brain which controls movement, speech, judgment and memory which lead to drunkenness, difficulty in walking, slurred speech, memory lapse and impulsive behavior.

In recognition of Alcohol Awareness Month, protect your skin and your overall health. Limit alcohol consumption and be a happier, healthier you.
