With summer over and winter starting, it doesn’t mean your skin is free from issues. Cold weather means dry air and dry skin that can lead to itching,
flaking, and redness.
Erase Repair wants to help you avoid unwanted skin issues and increase your skin care regime during winter. Here are five practical tips to consider:
1. Give your skin a shower-time facelift
First, when showering, use warm water instead of hot. Hot water may reduce the moisture in your skin and make it drier. Second, use a bath wash or
moisturizing soap rather than a regular bar of soap. Regular soaps are harsher on the skin, causing dryness.
After taking a bath, avoid rubbing your wet skin with a towel. Just pat it dry. Then, apply a generous amount of body moisturizer. Lotion should be applied twice a day to maintain moisture.
2. Use a humidifier
Humidifiers can improve your skin’s health during the winter. If you have one at home, turn it on at night. Humidifiers can help make your skin glow, and help relieve throat dryness and clear your nasal passages.
3. Use moisturizer for your skin
An ideal moisturizer should use mild ingredients. Avoid greasy moisturizers for the face. A greasy moisturizer could clog the pores and cause a breakout or acne.
Also, many moisturizers don’t rehydrate the skin. They slow down the process of water loss. Thus, moisturizer applied to skin acts as an outer covering to help retain desired moisture within in the skin.
4. Apply sunscreen when going out
Just because it’s a cold day, doesn’t mean you don’t have to use sunscreen. Since snow can reflect the sun’s rays, you could still be prone to sunburn.
Sunscreen should be applied while outside, especially when exposed to the sun. Use lip balm to avoid chapped lips.
5. Alter Your Food Diet
Loss of water in the body causes dry skin, so during the cold season change your diet as needed. Eat fruits and vegetables high in water-content. It will help restore skin moisture. Also, drink the daily recommended amount of water and stay away from caffeinated drinks such as coffee or soda. These could lead to dehydration.
